What is an Apostille?
It’s a form of authentication issued in line with the decision made in the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961. So, the apostille certificate approves the signature, seal, or stamp on a document to be genuine so that it will be accepted when submitted in another country outside of the issued country.
The apostille certificate is permanently glued to another document and then embossed with the apostille seal or apostille stamp, which means it is used referred to as getting a document 'apostilled'.
Joining the Hague Apostille Convention – 1961
Turkey, also, joined the Hague Apostille Convention on 29th September 1985. For this reason, documents that have been apostilled by Turkey are included in the international legalization system.
The apostille certificate should be filled in Turkish in Turkey. Meanwhile, the heading “Apostille (Convention de la Haye du 5 October 1961)” written in French is a mandatory requirement for the apostille’s seen as valid.

What does an Apostille confirm?
An Apostille is only to certify the authenticity of the signature, the capacity of the person signing the document has acted, and where appropriate, the identity of the seal or stamp which the document bears. The Apostille does not relate to the content of the underlying document itself.

- Notarization must be made in a notary where a translation of the document is translated by a certified translation office.

Remember! Foreign Country Documents to be Apostilled:
Apostille certification can only be made to any document coming from abroad by the relevant institutions in Turkey if the relevant document has already apostilled or it has been legalized by the Turkish Embassy or Consulate of the issuing country. Each country has the right to make apostille approvals in a document issued within its own borders. Then, a document issued in a foreign country needs to be apostilled in that country and must be brought to Turkey as apostilled.
But, the embassies and consulates of some countries in Turkey may apostille the documents of their country. You can contact the embassy and consulate to ask about such an opportunity. Or else, your documents must be sent to the country where your document is issued and they must be apostilled there.

Validity of an Apostille issued in Turkey
An apostille certificate does not have a specific validity period. But, if the document with the apostille stamp has a validity period, the apostille becomes invalid when the form expires.
